Warrants Issued Against Man Who Fled During Traffic Stop
Warrants have been issued against a man who allegedly fled on foot during a traffic stop conducted late Wednesday.
A deputy with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department reports that he was returning to the department around 10:00 p.m. when he met a vehicle that had no working lights.
He reports that he met the northbound Lincoln Continental in the vicinity of Handy Andy Market on North Locust Avenue, and conducted a traffic stop at Northside Animal Clinic.
While speaking with the vehicle occupants, the deputy reports that passenger Jose Antonio Lopez, Jr., age 23, reached for the door handle and was instructed to stop. He reportedly grabbed the handle and fled on foot, running across a field.
Officers were unable to locate Lopez during an immediate search of the area. Warrants were obtained charging him with resisting stop, frisk, halt.
